2026 June Chamber Luncheon

Monday, June 8, 2026 (11:30 AM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

🌟 Connect, Learn, and Be Inspired! 🌟

The Sister City program was created for Georgetown shortly after Toyota started production here. The idea of the program was to share our cultures with each other. Keep in mind this was late in the 80’s and things like the internet and cell phones were far in the future.

Since Tahara, Japan was the home of Toyota, it made sense for Georgetown to have contact with that area. In the hopes that we could share many things. Student exchange programs blossomed, we created an alliance with Georgetown College that allowed education majors to spend one year to many years teaching English to our Japanese friends and children. That program is still being ran today.

As the years became decades, many cultural items were shared. One item that most people are not aware of, is that Tahara helped build the Yuko-en Garden that so many Scott County residents enjoy.

Today the tradition lives on through younger generations. We still host students, Tahara residents, and many of our friends from around the globe.

Georgetown Mayor Burney Jenkins, Executive Director of Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Lori Saunders, and Tom Ramsey, CEO of CK Tactical will be our speakers.
